DueTrail vs Adfin: an honest comparison

Adfin is a UK payments-led platform: its credit control is free under fair use, and it earns from the payments it processes. DueTrail is review-first collections software with a fixed monthly price and no payment processing of its own. The split is a payments business that chases vs a chasing tool that leaves payments where they are.

Disclosure: We make DueTrail, so we have an interest here. We've kept this factual and verified Adfin's pricing and positioning against their own website in October 2026. Where Adfin is the better fit, we say so.

DueTrail

Review-first invoice-to-cash software: imports create paused collection cases and nothing sends until your team approves it. It connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Moneybird, read-only unless you switch on notes on the invoice (or takes a CSV from anything else) and re-checks the ledger right before every reminder, so nobody is chased for an invoice they have already paid. It can work out statutory late-payment interest and compensation (UK or EU rules, or your own terms) and quote them in reminders and the portal. A customer statement, listing every open invoice in one email, goes through the same preview-and-approve step, or goes out monthly once automation is on. In the customer portal a customer can promise a date, propose paying in instalments, say they have paid, or raise a question, and each of those pauses the chasing. An agreed payment plan holds reminders while the instalments arrive and lapses on its own if one is missed. Two workspace prices (€49 Starter up to 75 active cases, €149 unlimited Team), unlimited users, pure software (not a debt-collection agency, no lending).

Best for: Small B2B service teams — agencies, consultancies, IT services, recruitment (roughly 10–200 people) — that want consistent, controlled follow-up without per-seat pricing.

Adfin

A UK payments-led platform where automated credit control over email, SMS and WhatsApp is free under fair use, and the revenue comes from payment fees (20p + 1% per transaction, capped at £4 for direct debit and bank payments). An Enhanced tier at 0.3% per paid invoice adds automatic late fees and sending from your own Gmail or Outlook. It connects to Xero and QuickBooks, plus practice tools such as Engager and Actionstep.

Best for: UK small businesses that collect by card, direct debit or open banking and would rather pay per payment than a monthly fee.

When to choose which

Adfin or DueTrail?

Choose Adfin if…

  • You want the chasing itself to cost nothing, and you are happy to pay per payment instead (20p + 1%, capped at £4 for direct debit and bank payments).
  • You want to take card, direct-debit and open-banking payments in the same tool that chases, with bank payments reconciled automatically.
  • You want SMS and WhatsApp reminders alongside email.
  • You want late fees applied automatically and reminders from your own Gmail or Outlook, on Adfin's Enhanced tier (0.3% per paid invoice).

Choose DueTrail if…

  • You want a fixed monthly cost that does not grow with what you collect: DueTrail is €49 or €149 a month whatever your customers pay, while Adfin's fees scale with every payment.
  • You want a person to approve each reminder before it sends. Adfin lists approval routing as coming soon.
  • You're on Moneybird or outside the UK: DueTrail connects to Moneybird, Xero and QuickBooks and prices in euros.
  • Your customers already pay by bank transfer and you don't want to move your payments to a new processor.
Bottom line: Choose Adfin if you want free chasing bundled with card, direct-debit and open-banking payments. Choose DueTrail if you want a fixed price, approval before every send, and payments left where they already are.
