DueTrail vs Trove: an honest comparison
Trove is a UK credit-control tool founded in 2025 and built around Xero, with AI-drafted chasing, statutory late fees and sending from your own mailbox. DueTrail is review-first invoice-to-cash software that connects to Xero, QuickBooks and Moneybird, with a customer portal and euro pricing. Both hold reminders for a person to approve; the split is UK Xero depth vs ledger breadth and the portal.

DueTrail
Review-first invoice-to-cash software: imports create paused collection cases and nothing sends until your team approves it. It connects to Xero, QuickBooks Online and Moneybird, read-only unless you switch on notes on the invoice (or takes a CSV from anything else) and re-checks the ledger right before every reminder, so nobody is chased for an invoice they have already paid. It can work out statutory late-payment interest and compensation (UK or EU rules, or your own terms) and quote them in reminders and the portal. A customer statement, listing every open invoice in one email, goes through the same preview-and-approve step, or goes out monthly once automation is on. In the customer portal a customer can promise a date, propose paying in instalments, say they have paid, or raise a question, and each of those pauses the chasing. An agreed payment plan holds reminders while the instalments arrive and lapses on its own if one is missed. Two workspace prices (€49 Starter up to 75 active cases, €149 unlimited Team), unlimited users, pure software (not a debt-collection agency, no lending).
Best for: Small B2B service teams — agencies, consultancies, IT services, recruitment (roughly 10–200 people) — that want consistent, controlled follow-up without per-seat pricing.
Trove
A UK credit-control tool founded in 2025 and built around Xero. AI drafts each chase and each reply, you approve them, and they send from your own Gmail or Outlook. It applies statutory late fees, runs payment plans and scheduled statements, sends letters before action, and writes expected payment dates back to Xero. It also connects to QuickBooks, FreeAgent and Stripe.
Best for: UK small businesses and finance teams on Xero that want AI-drafted chasing with statutory late fees, sent from their own mailbox.
When to choose which
Trove or DueTrail?
Choose Trove if…
- You want statutory late fees written into the invoice in Xero itself. DueTrail works them out and quotes them in reminders and the portal, but doesn't add them to the invoice.
- You want AI to draft the replies as well as the chases, and everything to go out from your own Gmail or Outlook mailbox.
- You want no debtor cap on the entry plan: Trove's £50 Essential covers unlimited debtors and users, while DueTrail's €49 Starter covers 75 active cases.
Choose DueTrail if…
- Your books are in Moneybird: DueTrail connects to it directly, alongside Xero and QuickBooks Online. Trove lists QuickBooks and FreeAgent, not Moneybird.
- You want customers to answer in a portal (promise a date, propose instalments, say they have paid, or raise a question), with each answer pausing the chasing. Trove's site does not mention a customer portal.
- You bill in euros: DueTrail is priced in EUR (€49 Starter, €149 unlimited Team), Trove in GBP.
- You want to set everything up with no deadline: Review Mode is free with no card and no time limit, and the 30-day live trial that follows needs no card either.
